MELBOURNE, Wed.—A mass
meeting ofl 450 members of
the Seamen's Union in Mel-
bourne decided unanimously
to accept: its Federal execu
tive recommendation that
all Dutch ships be boycotted,
no matter what their destina
tion.
The State Secretary (Mr W.
Bird) said that the Dutch tank
er Cistula, which had been an
chored in the bay for some days,
would not be provided with tugs,
nor would the Nieuw Holland
and Abbekerk, when they were
due to .sail.
"We are not going to touch
any Dutch ship," he said.
Shipping men believe that un-
less pilots agree to berthing her
unaided, the Cistula will be for-
ced to leave port without dis-
charging her cargo of petrol from
Singapore;
The Cistula carries 13.000 tons
(3,900,000 gallons of liquid oil
fuel, mostly petrol.
If this fuel was lost 'some in-
convenience" would result, the
Liquid Fuel Controller, (Mr J. B.
Cumming) said today. : - A few
weeks reserves were always in
hand, however, and no immediate
effect on local supplies was like-
ly.
The State secretary of the
Ship Painters and Dockers' Un-
ion.' (Mr G. Doyle) said his mem-
bers had endorsed its Federal
Council recommendation. They
would refuse to repair or pre-
pares for the reception of cargo
any Dutch Ship that came to
Melbourne.
